Self Help Advice- How To Stay Motivated And Focused!
I manage to exercise, study and work on schedule everyday of the week and I do it all by myself. To me this has become a simple routine which I have no problem doing daily, I have even come to enjoy it. However this did not all come easy to me, there was a time when I had big problems motivating myself and I could not even concentrate on the simplest of tasks. However, through research, trial and error and help from friends I came up with some tips to seriously motivate those who cannot concentrate.
Firstly I think that changing where you work every once in awhile really can improve your concentration as well as motivation. I used to study in the same cramped room day in and day out, after a few hours I would get sick of it and my concentration would be completely broken. A friend suggested to me that when this happens you should go to a caf or to the park, after I made the change in environment my focus and motivation to work all came back in one big jolt. I think this is one of the most important things I have ever learned, trust me it works.
Secondly, if you are feeling lazy or just plain down listen to your favourite inspirational music to pick you up. When I am exercising at home, cleaning or studying I often have times when I just don’t want to keep going, but after I turn on some good metal or electronic music I get straight back into focus. Whatever music works for you, use it to your advantage; you will be surprised how powerful the sound of good music can be. If you are someone who doesn’t listen to music then why not try something visual? I like to sometimes go to Youtube and watch motivational videos, I find UFC training videos really do the trick. Find something that suits your personality and use it.
Thirdly, get a stop watch and time yourself. I like to time myself in periods of one hour each, then I rest for 15 to 20 minutes. Try this and see how it improves your work efficiency and concentration dramatically.
My fourth tip- Get rid of distractions. Find out what your main distraction is (probably TV or the Internet) and get away from it. This is often easier said than done though, because today so much is done on the internet. I like to open up the internet pages which I will need and then turn off the internet without turning off the computer, it keeps me in line.
Even if you need to do something as boring as cleaning an over the sink dish drainer these tips can work for you. So next time you are cleaning your over the sink dish rack remember them!
